When working with SME's and Faculty to create online courses that follow Quality Matters Certifications, there is a particular balance of expert knowledge, Quality Matters Guidelines, and ID creativity that come together to result in a holistic, clear, standardized course.
Bold 2 Practicum is the first Experiential Learning course of its kind to obtain a Quality Matters Certification. Learners work as a advertising agency team to participate in an internship with external clients throughout the semester, develop a client campaign and deliverables, then submit their final presentation detailing the semester's work.
Below is a brief walkthough of the BOLD 2 Practicum course, highlighting the Home Page, Course and Module Objectives, Module Overview Layout, and Assignment Design. This course is hosted within a Non-Term Associated Shell within Canvas LMS.
BOLD 2 Practicum Agency's certification through Quality Matters showcases the impact of measurable, alignment-centered learning objectives, instructional materials, feedback centered assignments, and a final overall assessment intersecting with real-world external client experience. Students are able to grasp the comprehensive nature of the practicum through each section of the course. By including a mix of internal course instruction and external real world application, BOLD 2 Practicum equips learners with an impactful start to their portfolios, experience the advertising career landscape, and develops mentorship through continuous feedback.
In general, designing courses with Quality Matters standards and best practices ensures that all elements of learning are working together with each other. Alignment, clear development goals, learning objectives, and relevant assessments, as well as a focus on accessibility creates a holistic course design that enhances student-centered learning.
